The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Chris Braswell, the No. 43 name on the board, in No. 68. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Wiley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Bo Nix in No. 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Chris Braswell at slot 68 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Dominick Puni come to them and pounced at pick 103. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Elijah Jones at the 137th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jha'Quan Jackson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Caedan Wallace was still sitting there in pick No. 231, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
