There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Texans started one anyway for Gino Garcia, 102 picks ahead of schedule. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Simon. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

In No. 18 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Tre Harris slipping to pick No. 58 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Joshua Farmer in the 90th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jake Majors. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Rylie Mills went about where he belonged in pick 137. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cody Simon in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Reed at No. 176, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They barely believed it either: Raheim Sanders still on the board at the 178th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Gino Garcia at pick 185 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
