Somebody in pick 224 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Nicholas Singleton, the No. 103 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Jones Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Bond at No. 36, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A safety of that caliber at pick 68 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Warren is a better player than the 70th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Booker in the 83rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Emery Jones Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Harold Perkins Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jimmy Horn Jr. in Round 7, Pick 1, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Bryce Foster here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a running back like Nicholas Singleton reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Xavier Nwankpa at No. 241 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
