Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chargers shredded theirs for Michael Barrett. He came off 34 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. On value alone, Paul makes the weekend a net positive.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Chargers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In the end it comes back to Quinyon Mitchell, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 5, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land T.J. Tampa in the 55th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brandon Dorlus at slot 69 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in the 84th pick, where Patrick Paul graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take AJ Barner this early at No. 139. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Michael Barrett at the 183rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Good price on Jalen Green in pick No. 256, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
