You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent the 91st overall pick on Jaden Hicks while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat unaddressed.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Hopper pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Nubin. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Mike Sainristil at slot 58 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Jaylen Wright come to them and pounced at pick 88. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A curious use of the 91st pick. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Jaden Hicks did not.
Sataoa Laumea is a better player than pick No. 127 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
