The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Khari Coleman, 94 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
They took Bralen Trice at par in the 34th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Ray Davis in slot 68 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Jaheim Bell in the 104th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Renardo Green in pick No. 136, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; JD Bertrand in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Khari Coleman at Round 7, Pick 9, well ahead of any board in the building. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
