They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
On value alone, Washington makes the weekend a net positive. Every board in the league had Suamataia lower, and that gap is the story.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
They reached into another round for Kingsley Suamataia, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kamari Lassiter at pick 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 3 with a little surplus value in Bralen Trice. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They liked Dominick Puni enough to skip the value, taking him in the 78th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Theo Johnson at No. 100, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Mason McCormick at slot 139, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tommy Eichenberg in the 152nd overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tahj Washington in Round 7, Pick 2 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
