The Chargers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The Williams pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They are betting Jenkins proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Chargers paired the rookies with proven help, Puka Nacua leading the way.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Kool-Aid McKinstry and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach on Kris Jenkins in slot 37; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in pick 60, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
D.J. James in the 69th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Marist Liufau here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zak Zinter at Round 4, Pick 6 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Beaux Limmer at pick 142 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Michael Barrett in the 183rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Taking Miyan Williams in the 226th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
