They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Kaleb Elarms-Orr, 43 picks early at No. 135. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That Caldwell pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Olaivavega Ioane at par in No. 21, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Elijah Sarratt at pick 76 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Ramsey at pick No. 85. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Tacario Davis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A want over a need in slot 127: Isaiah World adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaleb Elarms-Orr in Round 4, Pick 35, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ephesians Prysock at pick 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jeff Caldwell in No. 216, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Eli Heidenreich, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Kelly in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Owen Heinecke in slot 237, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
