Miami Dolphins

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins bet big and early on Beau Stephens, 28 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Stowers. With quarterback and running back unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Mansoor Delane · CB · rank 8
In No. 11 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 34
They paid sticker price for Omar Cooper Jr. in pick 30, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Derrick Moore · DE-EDGE · rank 62
Derrick Moore in pick No. 43 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 53
Somehow Eli Stowers was still sitting there in slot 75, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 72
They read the board right and Jacob Rodriguez was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 23. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Treydan Stukes at cornerback with quarterback and running back open.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Bishop Fitzgerald · S · rank 123
They went early on Bishop Fitzgerald in slot 108, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
Beau Stephens at pick 130 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 176
A big swing on Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 151st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
R5.30 · Pick 170 · Keagen Trost · OT · rank 180
A reach for Keagen Trost in Round 5, Pick 30; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Jalen Huskey · S · rank 240
A conviction pick on Jalen Huskey at No. 227 that the board grades a round light. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 222
Zavion Thomas slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Deven Eastern · DL · rank 279
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Deven Eastern well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
