The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Mahogany has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.8
· Pick 8
· Jayden Daniels
· QB
· rank 7
In slot 8 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
R1.14
· Pick 14
· JC Latham
· OT
· rank 15
In the 14th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Darius Robinson
· DL-EDGE
· rank 39
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. It fills a real need, too.
R2.8
· Pick 40
· Jordan Morgan
· OT
· rank 37
They did well to land Jordan Morgan in the 40th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.11
· Pick 43
· Chris Braswell
· LB-EDGE
· rank 44
Chris Braswell in No. 43 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Roman Wilson
· WR
· rank 46
You do not let a wide receiver like Roman Wilson reach Round 3, Pick 3 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.14
· Pick 78
· Mike Sainristil
· CB
· rank 75
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 78 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.15
· Pick 79
· Christian Mahogany
· OG
· rank 98
Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.3
· Pick 139
· Trevor Keegan
· OG
· rank 144
Trevor Keegan in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.16
· Pick 152
· Jaheim Bell
· TE
· rank 164
The board had cheaper options than Jaheim Bell at slot 152, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.2
· Pick 222
· Johnny Dixon
· CB
· rank 190
Johnny Dixon at pick 222 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
