The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. That Rouse pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The Holker pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Kool-Aid McKinstry went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th pick. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Dadrion Taylor-Demerson higher than pick No. 103, and the safety fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Dallin Holker in Round 5, Pick 1; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Walter Rouse at pick 180 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Jha'Quan Jackson was the payoff at No. 193. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sheridan Jones slipping to the 231st overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
