The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wiley value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 44. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Foster at No. 77 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Leonard Taylor III in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cedric Gray at Round 5, Pick 11 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Delmar Glaze at the 190th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Michael Wiley at slot 221 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Christian Jones at the 231st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
