After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Stover pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
Reaching for Corley left real value on the table behind him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Troy Fautanu in pick No. 34 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Malachi Corley at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Jalen McMillan in No. 73, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Max Melton in the 105th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They went early on Jaden Crumedy in the 224th pick, and the value did not follow. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
