They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will need Wilson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Vaki.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Jordan Morgan in slot 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Worthy at No. 68. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Johnny Wilson at the 103rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ben Sinnott at Round 5, Pick 1 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sione Vaki in pick No. 180 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Johnny Dixon, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kimani Vidal. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
