This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Spencer Rattler, the No. 91 name on the board, stolen at slot 182. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They will need Capehart to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in No. 34, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a wide receiver like Adonai Mitchell reach the 72nd overall pick and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Dominick Puni went about where he belonged in pick No. 103. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Cedric Gray in pick 139, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Spencer Rattler at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Michael Wiley in the 187th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Daequan Hardy in No. 232 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They talked themselves into DeMonte Capehart at slot 255, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
