The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If Stogner pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Lassiter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Kamari Lassiter higher than No. 34, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Corley a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Blake Fisher in the 104th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Austin Stogner in Round 6, Pick 7, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick No. 229 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
