The rest of the league had time to spare on Matthew Jones; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 35 spots ahead at pick 219. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
That Proctor pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell at the 25th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tyler Nubin in slot 58 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 26, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mason McCormick in No. 169. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nathaniel Watson. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A wild overpay on Matthew Jones in pick 219, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Josh Proctor at the 245th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A quiet steal in the 255th overall pick: KT Leveston for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
