Miami Dolphins

Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Dolphins.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Dolphins spent No. 151 on Taylen Green, a name most had 43 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

Landing Caldwell that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Mansoor Delane · CB · rank 8
In the 11th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 27
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 38
Emmanuel Pregnon at slot 48 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 62
Value with a capital V on Germie Bernard in No. 75, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 56
Eli Stowers in Round 3, Pick 23 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 72
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Treydan Stukes at cornerback with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Malachi Fields · WR · rank 79
Malachi Fields slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 30 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · Emmett Johnson · RB · rank 108
The board had Emmett Johnson higher than pick No. 122, and the running back fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Bishop Fitzgerald · S · rank 125
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Bishop Fitzgerald, a safety that was not the priority.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 194
Taylen Green at slot 151 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
Steal is underselling it; Jeff Caldwell at the 227th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 229
They let Thaddeus Dixon come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
