Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Dolphins, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They will need Jean-Baptiste to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in the 56th pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Justin Eboigbe in pick 137, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Javion Cohen at the 158th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They liked Drake Nugent enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 23. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Javontae Jean-Baptiste in slot 200 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Whittington in No. 241 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Trey Taylor at pick 248, and the board did not agree. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
