The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Chad Lindberg, taking him 48 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
If Chop Robinson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in pick No. 35. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at pick 56, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A conviction pick on Zak Zinter at the 87th pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Tommy Eichenberg in the 104th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Will Shipley in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Christian Jones in Round 5, Pick 33 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Javon Baker at Round 5, Pick 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Chad Lindberg in the 212th pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Dwight McGlothern enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 245. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
