They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Getting Washington where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while tight end and edge rusher went begging. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Jackson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.8
· Pick 8
· Jayden Daniels
· QB
· rank 7
In slot 8 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Jordan Morgan
· OT
· rank 37
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.10
· Pick 42
· Tyler Nubin
· S
· rank 40
Tyler Nubin at Round 2, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Payton Wilson
· LB
· rank 57
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Payton Wilson at pick 67. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.10
· Pick 74
· Devontez Walker
· WR
· rank 70
Devontez Walker at No. 74 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.14
· Pick 78
· Khyree Jackson
· CB
· rank 95
They liked Khyree Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 78th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.37
· Pick 100
· Javon Solomon
· OLB-EDGE
· rank 117
A curious use of pick No. 100. Tight end and edge rusher needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
R4.12
· Pick 112
· Maason Smith
· DT
· rank 111
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Maason Smith. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.3
· Pick 139
· Isaac Guerendo
· RB
· rank 129
Nice patience on Isaac Guerendo, who had no business lasting to pick 139. The roster fit checks out.
R5.16
· Pick 152
· Christian Jones
· OT
· rank 132
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach pick No. 152 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.7
· Pick 182
· Dwight McGlothern
· CB
· rank 161
Dwight McGlothern in the 182nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.1
· Pick 221
· Tahj Washington
· WR
· rank 189
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 221st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.2
· Pick 222
· Frank Gore Jr.
· RB
· rank 226
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
