The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Bhayshul Tuten slide 54 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Every board in the league had Dellinger lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They jumped the gun on Aireontae Ersery, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Amos at pick 45, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Will Howard at slot 145 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Bhayshul Tuten at the 219th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Hayden Conner at pick No. 222. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Garrett Dellinger at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
