When a board-topper like Tahj Brooks slides to No. 240, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Trapilo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ozzy Trapilo in Round 3, Pick 5 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the 95th pick, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Denzel Burke is a better player than slot 105 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Taking Mason Taylor in the 145th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 219 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jonah Monheim in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tahj Brooks in pick No. 240 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
