If confidence were a draft strategy, the Patriots would have aced it. Jalen Travis at No. 144 is 152 spots clear of where he belonged. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. However the rest shakes out, Longerbeam at that price is a win they earned.
Hit on Ashton Jeanty and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game. A real need, handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tate Ratledge. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylin Noel at slot 69 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Emery Jones Jr. in the 77th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalen Travis at No. 144 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Andrew Armstrong, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Garrett Dellinger at pick No. 220 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Robert Longerbeam still on the board at No. 238. It adds depth where they could use a little.
