The rest of the league will want that one back. Xavier Worthy tumbling to the Patriots in No. 182 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They will need Van Pran to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging.
A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bo Nix in No. 38. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Patrick Paul at slot 40 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 4, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Circle this one: Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Somehow Xavier Worthy was still sitting there in the 182nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Nathan Thomas in pick No. 184, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Kenny Logan Jr. come to them and pounced at pick 224. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Cody Schrader at No. 232 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
