The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Franklin steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a bendy edge with upside. A real need, handled.
Troy Franklin slipping to Round 2, Pick 7 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
D.J. James in the 70th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ray Davis in the 107th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 143 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Baker in slot 185. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
