Somebody in the 220th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Kalel Mullings, the No. 108 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, with Jahdae Barron leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 17 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
Value with a capital V on Harold Fannin Jr. in the 45th overall pick, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 69th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Tyleik Williams still on the board at No. 77. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: TreVeyon Henderson at Round 4, Pick 4 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Luke Kandra in slot 143 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Chris Paul Jr. was still sitting there in pick No. 214, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Jeffrey Bassa all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Steal is underselling it; Kalel Mullings at No. 220 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jonas Sanker at slot 241 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
