The Chargers spent real capital to be 61 picks early on Zion Logue, and the board is going to hold them to it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Barrett steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Troy Fautanu in slot 37, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Blake Corum at pick No. 69 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Dominick Puni higher than the 105th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Malik Washington come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 10. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Trevor Keegan at par in pick 140, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
AJ Barner is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zion Logue at pick No. 225 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a linebacker like Michael Barrett reach the 253rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
