Nobody else had Isaac Guerendo anywhere near Round 4, Pick 6. The Patriots did, by 32 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The Rice value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach for Junior Colson in pick No. 38; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kingsley Suamataia at pick 78 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at Round 3, Pick 37 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 106 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in No. 137: Brenden Rice for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Eboigbe a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Dixon at the 182nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor itch, scratched.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Justin Rogers. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Michael Barrett in slot 231 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
