Everything else got attention, and tight end got none. That is a strange way for the Chiefs to leave a draft. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That Shirden pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the 64th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Maason Smith at pick 95 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nehemiah Pritchett at Round 4, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Luke McCaffrey slipping to No. 159 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Nelson Ceaser enough to skip the value, taking him in the 173rd overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaden Shirden slid further than he should have, and pick No. 252 is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
