The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Anthony Hill Jr. slide 92 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 30th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Akheem Mesidor at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Chris Bell still on the board at the 75th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; A.J. Haulcy at Round 3, Pick 23 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Emmanuel Pregnon in slot 90 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in the 94th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A need, and now a little less of one.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 130 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Gracen Halton at pick 151 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Anez Cooper at pick No. 227 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zavion Thomas in Round 7, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
