Thirty-one other rooms let Cody Simon slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at the 230th overall pick. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Thornton Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Myles Garrett gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Darien Porter at No. 79 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Donovan Jackson slipping to pick 99 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 146, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Miles Frazier at slot 203, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 230th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at the 236th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Xavier Truss at slot 247 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
