When a board-topper like Myles Harden slides to slot 229, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first. The cost of the Pratt reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 48th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Max Melton at pick 68 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A want over a need in slot 104: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while edge rusher and running back keeps waiting.
They reached a country mile for Michael Pratt at the 115th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dallin Holker in No. 136, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 6, Pick 7 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Myles Harden in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They paid sticker price for Logan Lee in pick No. 234, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
