The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Nehemiah Pritchett slide 37 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Marvin Harrison Jr. at the 3rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in the 34th overall pick with a little surplus value in Bo Nix. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in No. 68, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dominick Puni slipping to pick 103 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in slot 137, where Ben Sinnott graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Nehemiah Pritchett still on the board at the Round 6 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Khristian Boyd at pick No. 193 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominique Hampton. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
