There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Zion Logue, 53 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Trey Benson in pick No. 56 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Christian Mahogany in the 90th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Steele Chambers in the 196th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Dominique Hampton in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in No. 216, where Julian Pearl graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zion Logue at pick No. 233 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Sheridan Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
