Miami Dolphins

A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Dolphins get a C+.

Future A

The Dolphins clearly saw something nobody else did in Drew Allar, taking him 62 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Branch falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Hit on Monroe Freeling and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Monroe Freeling · OT · rank 26
In No. 18 they get a building block for the line, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 67
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Max Iheanachor · OT · rank 46
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Iheanachor. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Zachariah Branch · WR · rank 60
Zachariah Branch slid further than he should have, and pick No. 75 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 109
A big swing on Nicholas Singleton at slot 87, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 132
A real head-scratcher, Harold Perkins Jr. in the 90th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Parker Brailsford · C · rank 129
They took Parker Brailsford at par in the 130th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · CJ Daniels · WR · rank 142
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 151, where CJ Daniels graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Isaiah Nwokobia · S · rank 226
Isaiah Nwokobia at the 227th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 254
Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 238 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
