Miami Dolphins

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Dolphins.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Jack Pyburn; the Dolphins did not wait, grabbing him 58 spots ahead at the 227th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Delp at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Monroe Freeling · OT · rank 26
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 43 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Malachi Fields · WR · rank 73
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Fields at the 75th pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 109
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nicholas Singleton. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 132
A wild overpay on Harold Perkins Jr. in slot 90, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 99
Malik Muhammad at the 94th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
Drew Allar at pick No. 130 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 131
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Jack Pyburn · LB-EDGE · rank 285
Jack Pyburn in slot 227 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Nick Barrett · DL · rank 251
A reach on Nick Barrett in pick 238; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
