Nobody else had Brady Cook anywhere near the 98th overall pick. The Dolphins did, by 155 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
That Walker pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
So much rides on Armand Membou that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Somehow Jack Sawyer was still sitting there in pick No. 46, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Brady Cook in slot 98, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Willie Lampkin at the 99th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brashard Smith in Round 4, Pick 12 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Miles Frazier at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Theo Wease Jr. at the 156th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Elijhah Badger well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
David Walker in pick 228 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Tyreak Sapp in slot 251 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
