Miami Dolphins

The Bailey reach set the tone, and the Dolphins never recovered: F.

The Dolphins went off the board in a big way for Emani Bailey, 102 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Robinson. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.21 · Pick 21 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 5
In No. 21 they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that.
R1.25 · Pick 25 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 18
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an island corner at fair value. More want than need.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 22
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 72
A premium they did not need to pay, Sedrick Van Pran a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 133
Christian Jones in the 115th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.13 · Pick 149 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 162
They went early on Jared Wiley in No. 149, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Emani Bailey · RB · rank 260
Value said wait; Emani Bailey in pick No. 158 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 195
They paid a round early for Trente Jones in the 184th pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Evan Williams · S · rank 215
Evan Williams at the 198th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 206
They took Jaylan Ford at par in Round 6, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Javontae Jean-Baptiste · DE-EDGE · rank 218
Javontae Jean-Baptiste at slot 214 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 217
Garret Greenfield at pick 224 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 237
A tidy little value on Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 241, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 286
Zion Logue at the 245th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
