Start where it matters. The Dolphins took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rosemy-Jacksaint. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Phillips pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, tight end and other spots.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting DeLoach proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at the 8th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
They did well to land Tyler Nubin in No. 43, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nice patience on Ruke Orhorhoro, who had no business lasting to slot 80. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Andru Phillips adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher, tight end and other spots untouched.
Matt Goncalves at the 109th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Luke McCaffrey slid further than he should have, and pick 157 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Mason McCormick in Round 6, Pick 10 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steele Chambers at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Joe Milton III higher than the 216th overall pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Kalen DeLoach at pick 230 when waiting would have done the job. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They robbed the room for Myles Harden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 241 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Tayvion Robinson at Round 7, Pick 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
