The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 46 spots for Taulia Tagovailoa, and value like that does not grow back.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCaffrey. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Braden Fiske at pick 55, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Xavier Worthy in pick No. 56 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 198 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Taulia Tagovailoa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
