Grand theft in the 89th pick: the Dolphins steal Mukuba and grade out a B+.

The Dolphins ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The Mukuba pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots went begging. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 21
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Walter Nolen. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Xavier Watts · S · rank 46
Value with a capital V on Xavier Watts in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 66
A curious use of pick No. 89. Quarterback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Andrew Mukuba did not.
R3.34 · Pick 98 · Elijah Arroyo · TE · rank 96
A straight-up fair deal on Elijah Arroyo at the 98th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
