This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tykee Smith, the No. 149 name on the board, stolen at the 184th pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They will need Thomas to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Amarius Mims come to them and pounced at the 31st pick. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 55 with a little surplus value in Xavier Legette. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Christian Haynes slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in No. 120, where Jalen McMillan graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xavier Thomas well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Malik Mustapha still on the board at the 158th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; Tykee Smith at Round 6, Pick 9 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Value with a capital V on Dwight McGlothern in pick No. 198, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kalen King in No. 210 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Coker. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Logan Lee at par in slot 241, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
