They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Miles Kitselman, 166 picks early at the 54th pick. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
That Slaughter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a mismatch in the passing game, though the board says they badly overpaid.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Miles Kitselman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Kaytron Allen at pick No. 68, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dalton Johnson at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Mason Reiger in slot 122 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Red Murdock well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jake Slaughter at the 153rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Kalil Alexander, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 215 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
