The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Mason McCormick at pick 120 regardless, 32 picks early. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Magee. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in the 55th pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Jalen McMillan in the 108th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mason McCormick at No. 120 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Erick All at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Josh Newton at pick No. 158 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Beau Brade at slot 161, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 35: Sataoa Laumea for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They liked Khristian Boyd enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Magee in pick 184 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalen Coker at No. 202 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Evan Williams in pick No. 255 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
