You build a draft on nights like this. Sione Vaki had no business being available in the Round 6 slot, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cade Stover. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Javon Baker in the 106th pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cole Bishop at No. 139 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 183 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Kamal Hadden in slot 186 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Sione Vaki in Round 6, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They read the board right and Frank Gore Jr. was the payoff at the 239th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
