You could see the war room lean forward. Luke McCaffrey at pick 226 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Kamara has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.2 · Pick 34 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
T'Vondre Sweat at the 34th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Brandon Dorlus · DE-EDGE · rank 81
They jumped the gun on Brandon Dorlus, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 104
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in No. 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 101
Value with a capital V on Jalen McMillan in pick 110, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 130
A real head-scratcher, Mohamed Kamara in the 112th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 125
You do not let a cornerback like Josh Newton reach slot 153 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Zion Tupuola-Fetui · DE-EDGE · rank 194
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Justin Rogers · DL · rank 201
The board had Justin Rogers higher than slot 209, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Luke McCaffrey at pick 226 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 220
Garret Greenfield at the 256th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Kenny Logan Jr. · S · rank 251
Fair-plus on Kenny Logan Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
