The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Elijah Jones slide 26 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Carter has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a blindside protector, reach and all.
DeWayne Carter at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Mohamed Kamara at pick No. 125, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Justin Eboigbe in Round 5, Pick 3; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Marist Liufau was the payoff at pick 157. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in No. 168; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Delmar Glaze at par in slot 183, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 197th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cornelius Johnson at slot 201 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Elijah Jones in pick No. 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Owens in Round 7, Pick 21. A minor need, but a need all the same.
