Whoever sat across the table from the Dolphins should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Getting McCaffrey where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The Van Pran pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 1 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brandon Dorlus at the 70th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Marshawn Kneeland at slot 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cedric Gray at the 124th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Josh Newton at pick No. 128 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Justin Eboigbe in the 157th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at the 186th pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cornelius Johnson in pick 200. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Owens at slot 239 is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
